Festive tutorial: How to make your own Felt Christmas Tree

Nothing is more festive than spending the holidays creating — and giving — your own crafts. Christmas is only two months away and we've already started preparing for it. We are making little felt Christmas Tree decoration. It's an ideal activity for both children and adults as well as a great way to add something special and handmade to your Christmas decor or give a DIY gift.

1. To make a Christmas Tree like this (H23cm/9.1") you will need:

- Two pieces of felt of different colors. For a tree - dark green felt sized 15x15cm/5.9"x5.9"; for the base - red felt sized 20x12cm/7.9"x4.7";
- Sewing or embroidery thread;
- Approx 10 buttons of your choice;
- Ribbon approx L30cm/11.8";
- Toy filling;
- Paper spool as a base. We used 6cm/2.4" diameter ribbon spool (plain wooden base would perfectly suite);
- A stem (picked outside);
- Fabric glue, ruler, scissors, a needle and a marker.

 Making the base

2. Cut out 2 x red felt circles (6cm/2.4" diameter to match the base size).
3. Glue one circle to the bottom of the base.
4. Make a small hole in the middle of the 2nd circle by making an 'X' cut and place a stem into the cut. Then put some glue inside the bottom of the base and glue the stem to it.
5. Cut out one red rectangular to fit around the base (20x6cm/7.9"x2.4") and glue to it.
6. Use 10cm/3.9" of ribbon to make a bow, sew it on to the rest of ribbon and glue it around the base. Ready!

Making the tree

7. Cut out 2 x green tree shapes (H15cm/5.9", W7.5cm/2.95" at a widest point).
8. Sew the buttons on to the tree shapes.
9. Begin stitching the shapes together at the bottom from the place for stem.
10. Stuff the tree with a filling before finishing the stitching.
11. Stop your stitching at the appropriate corner (in this case at about 2cm/0.8") from the start of the stitching, to leave a gap for a stem you use. Finally, put the tree on a stem.

The Christmas Tree Decoration is done!
